Belarus is among the three largest buyers of Gazprom

19.05.2018. Belarus returned to third place in imports of Gazprom gas, according to the report of the Russian gas monopoly for January-March 2018. In the first quarter, Belarus, which imported 5.993 billion cubic meters of natural gas, became the largest partner of Gazprom in the post-Soviet space. n a global scale, our country in this period came in third place, beating Italy.


The volume of gas imports to Belarus remained virtually at the same level as it was in the first quarter of 2017 (5, 6 billion cubic meters). The traditional main partner of Gazprom-Germany-increased purchases by almost 1.5 billion cubic meters (from 14, 495 to 16, 099 billion cubic meters), but three more large importers reduced volumes.

Turkey reduced its imports from 8,108 to 7,917 billion, Italy — from 5,184 to 4,756 billion, the UK - from 5, 367 to 4,027 billion cubic meters.

By the end of 2017, Belarus ranked fourth in the ranking of Gazprom gas buyers, following Germany, Turkey and Italy. By the end of the first quarter of this year, Belarusian consumers were ahead of Italian ones.

The second and third largest buyers of Russian gas imports in the former Soviet Union were Kazakhstan and Ukraine. Ukraine arrived in the first winter months of 2018 1,242 billion cubic meters, which amounted to almost 50% of the total volume of imports in 2017.

Deliveries to the post-Soviet market and the rest of Europe increased in the first quarter. In total, 12.511 billion cubic meters were pumped to the former Soviet republics (11.594 billion cubic meters in the same period last year). Europe has purchased 54,049 billion cubic meters of gas, while in the 1st quarter of 2017 — 50,052 billion cubic meters.
