We are analyzing the prospects of acquiring or creating our own cargo fleet in order to minimize freight costs, " Roman Golovchenko said. "The ports of the Leningrad Region are a priority for us from the point of view of economic efficiency."

The topic of creating your own fleet in Belarus is not new. It began to rise in the early 90s. The relevant documents were even adopted at the government level.

In accordance with the state program adopted in 1997, one of the stages of the creation of the Belarusian navy was the construction of its own vessels: two for sea navigation, and five for coastal, river — sea class. The implementation of this point of the program would allow you to earn a lot of money, but under many conditions. None of them were fulfilled. The result of the program was the launching of one ship, the river — sea class, in 2002.

According to the data for 2020, as reported by the newspaper "Belarusians and the Market", seven vessels were registered in the State Register of Sea Vessels of the Republic of Belarus.
