A modern European automated line and one of the largest hot-dip galvanizing baths in Europe allow the Belarusian company "Konus" to zinc metal structures with a maximum size of 14.5x1. 6x3. 2 m (LxWxH) and a maximum weight of up to 6 tons per product. The thickness of the zinc coating is from 40 microns in accordance with GOST 9.307-89 and STB ISO 1461-2009, depending on the steel grade and the size of the product. The company has a quality management system STB ISO 9001-2015.
Corrosion leads to premature failure of expensive products and structures, to the destruction of technological processes and equipment downtime. The prepared product made of steel or cast iron is immersed in molten zinc at a temperature of 450°C, as a result of which the metal is coated, including cavities and hard-to-reach places at the molecular level, and provides the metal with a long-term service life (up to 50 years or more). The thickness of the coating will be from 40 microns.
When calculating the cost of the coating, it is often forgotten to take into account the operating costs of maintaining it in working condition. Practice shows that during the life of a product made of ferrous metals, it must be re-painted at least 3 times, which in industrial conditions is fraught with additional costs, including even a temporary stop of production.
Thus, based on the product life span of 25-30 years, the zinc coating is 2 - 2.5 times cheaper than the paint and varnish coating, since it does not require repair and supervision. That is why hot-dip galvanizing has long been considered the most effective and economical way to protect products from corrosion and is recognized as an international standard.
The zinc coating creates not only an anti-corrosion barrier with a thickness of 40 microns, but also provides electrochemical protection of steel. The latter is known as "sacrificial protection", since zinc sacrifices itself to protect the steel on which it is applied. Zinc will continue to act in this way until the very last atom.
Even if the zinc coating is damaged, due to the presence of a buffer layer (an alloy of two metals formed under the influence of high temperature during hot-dip galvanizing), corrosion will not touch the base metal!
If you want your expensive products and structures to last for a long time, you can use the services of the Konus plant.
